The Importance of our Mission, Vision and Values

Seabird Island Community School has a clear mission, vision and set of values that guide all aspects of the educational experience. The school’s philosophy statement emphasizes perpetuating and strengthening the Stó:lō culture and language through education. The vision is to provide students with the teachings, experiences and values that develop essential qualities like self-reliance, cooperation, generosity, honesty and respect for others and the environment. Ultimately, the mission is for education to be a preparation for total living – addressing the physical, social, emotional, spiritual and academic needs of every learner.

The core values underlying this mission and vision include promoting student success regardless of ability or background, making decisions in the best interests of students, and encouraging a caring atmosphere that motivates participation and recognizes accomplishments. With Indigenous values and ways of knowing woven throughout, Seabird Island Community School molds students into well-rounded, involved and culturally-grounded members of their community.
